The anatomy and structure of the skin may seem very simple to you, but it is not. Skin is the largest organ in the human body and covers your entire body. This has made the skin one of the most complex organs in the body. This structure is constantly changing and has special specialized cells and structures. The skin acts as a protective barrier and basically its main task is to take care of your body organs, which does this protection in different ways. For example, it regulates your body temperature, boosts your immunity, removes waste products, and constantly repairs itself. Skin cells also produce vitamin D. 16% of our body volume is made up of skin. In addition, this organ makes up eight percent of the body's weight. The skin consists of three layers: the epidermis, which is in the middle of the skin or dermis, the dermis, which is in the middle layer, and the hypodermis, which is inside the skin and is known as subcutaneous fat. The thickness of the skin is between 1.4 and 4 mm, the thickest of which can be seen on the soles of the feet and the thinnest in the eyelid area. The skin has various functions in the body, one of which is the production of vitamin D.
